We took the family to see Super Mario Bros Movie last night on opening night.

Let me start by saying I liked the movie a lot. Was it a 4 start movie? No. But it was a lot of fun and very nostalgic. It was a perfect family movie for kids. Nothing seemed to be political, sexual, woke, or controversial in any way. I don’t believe I heard any bad words, or adult inuendoes like you see in so many kids movies today.

The movie started with this fun commercial that Mario and Luigi had made. Obviously, there were a lot of mixed reactions to the commercial from family and friends. It tied is the typical voicing you would expect form Mario and Luigi. The funny foreign dialect played out through the whole movie. I think they addressed it very well.

They did try to portray Mario and Luigi as accident prone, not successful, and lacking some competence. In the end they develop as individuals and rise above it.

Mario and Luigi set out to save Brooklyn and end up in the video game world. This is the part I loved. The characters were so well illustrated, and each kind of character had its own characteristics that patterned the video games. And that is not all, they covered almost every single character in every single Mario video game. It was actually really cool and super creative.

The tie in with Donkey Kong and Mario Kart were equally exceptional. The test that Peaches puts Mario through, Toad, and the tunnel system were equally fun,

Bowser was funny, the first time he started expressing his love for Peach the whole theater started laughing. His song about peaches was hilarious.
